On February 15th, 1979, the Greek cargo ship IRIS, tonnage
8.500 tons, length 145m, width 19m, speed 14 knots, built in 1959 by Werf De
Noord N. V. and owned by Felicia Efi Cia Naviera SA, traveling from Rio to
Lisbon, with a sugar load, foundered in a storm, 35 miles northwest from Cabo
Sao Vicente, Portugal. 8 from the 28 crew members lost their lives.
